It all started as a small and simple livelihood program for our PDL hoping that it will somehow help them financially during their incarceration, especially during this pandemic. Thru the support of JINSP NOEL G DULNUAN, our warden, and the teamwork of personnel and PDL, we managed to sustain and improve our program. After a year, since we started CocoCraft, we can say that our livelihood program is now at the next higher level. From making COCO mugs and COCO Kettles, now we have created more arty products. We are now producing COCO lampshades and chandeliers in which coconut shells remained as our main material. Another beautiful work of art from our creative PDL that will surely give extra brightness, warmth, and joy to every Filipino home here and abroad. Coco Craft livelihood program initially started with only two (2) PDL working but as we improve our products and designs, there is a sudden increase in orders. Now, we have ten (10) PDL who are working together to meet the growing demand. Adding workers only means that we are also giving opportunities for other PDL to earn, develop and showcase their skills and talents in the field of craftsmanship.
For accessibility, convenience, and easy transaction, JO2 Mayla Y Baquedqued named lampshades and chandeliers after the tourist spots of Abra to help in the promotion of its beautiful tourist destinations. At this point, the province of Abra acknowledges our products and expresses their support by posting our products on their official Facebook page “Abra Province Facebook #PersonsDeprivedOfLiberty” and once featured at Abrenian.com which is one of the most-read pages in the province.
The PDL, especially those who are involved in this program are so thankful because they can sustain other needs while in detention and be able to extend financial help to their families outside. Indeed, if we work together, nothing is impossible. With the inception of this growing CocoCraft livelihood, we know that we are on the right track in guiding, helping, and total reformation of the PDL in preparation for their eventual reintegration into the mainstream of the community. With the bureau’s programs and personnel’s initiatives, the PDL are regaining their self-confidence and are now willing to showcase their talents. The coconut craft livelihood is planning for expansion in entering and financing new livelihood ventures such as Dishwashing Liquid Soap Making, Mushroom Propagation, Metal Crafts Welding, and other suitable livelihood ventures.
Harmony, mutual support, and teamwork are only a few ingredients for the success of these endeavors. We pray for the continuing success of the livelihood program as we find it an excellent therapy towards the PDL holistic reformation.
