History

On January 1, 1993, The Provincial Government of Ifugao represented by Governor Albert D Pawingi, donated an area of its property located at Tiger Hill, Kiangan, Ifugao consisting an area of 5,802.62 sq.m. to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology represented by then SJO4 Den D Pitpitunge Sr. as Ifugao Provincial Administrator.

During the term of J/SSUPT RAFAEL T DELSON, as assistant Regional Director, Ifugao District Jail was constructed on March 13, 2000.The jail was adjacent to the Ifugao Provincial Jail located at Tiger Hill, Kiangan, Ifugao. SINSP CRISPIN M DORNAGON Jr. was designated as the first warden on January 16, 2001 with Fifteen (15) inmates committed by various courts in the Province.

With the passage of the Bill proposing the Provincial Jail be placed under jurisdiction of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology as authored designated Jail Provincial Administrator and concurrent Ifugao District Jail Warden was able to convince the provincial Government of Ifugao to turn-over the Provincial Jail to the BJMP.

On November 10, 2009, the Provincial Government of Ifugao, with principal address at Capitol compound, Pob. South, Lagawe, Ifugao, represented HON. TEODORO B BAGUILAT JR., in his capacity as Provincial Governor and as authorized by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ifugao referred as Donor and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology represented by J/SSUPT JULIAN O MANGOMOC, JR., in his capacity as Regional Director, BJMP-CAR referred as done into Memorandum of Agreement for the transfer of control and supervision of Ifugao Provincial Jail to the BJMP accommodating it’s detention prisoners with the prior authority from the courts and donating its lots with an area of 1,471 sq.m and its buildings and other improvement by way of conditional donation.

On April 16, 2010, the proposal of the Chief, BJMP to rename Ifugao Provincial Jail as Ifugao District Jail through the endorsement of Under Secretary for Public Safety ATTY. MARIUS CORPUS was approved by the HON. SEC. RONALDO V PUNO of the DILG.

The former Ifugao District Jail Building serves as extension of the newly renamed Provincial Jail.

Improvements were made during the incumbency of J/SINSP DORNAGON such as construction of the Guard House funded by the Provincial Local Government of Ifugao which was partially finished and completed only upon additional funding of the BJMP Regional Office. The Construction of Secondary Gate for C.Y. 2013 during the administration of J/CINSP WILFREDO LUNAG. The Concrete Topping of playground. Repair of Livelihood Area, Repair of Jail Kitchen and the construction of two story building with 4 cells (6mx8m per cell) funded by the BJMP- Regional Office thru J/SINSP PAUL M BALAG-EY, J/SINSP BARNABAS B MALATEO continued the supervision of the jail building construction until it was finished last February 2017, he initiated the installation of guard house at right back corner inside jail facility, restoration of combat and barbed wires at top of rear perimeter fence, installation of steel stairs and front grills at the constructed new jail building. Assistant warden J/INSP ENRIQUE DG DE GUZMAN installed a secondary fence at the female dormitory. The DPWH, Ifugao 1st Engr’ng. District implemented the Repair and Maintenance of Visitors Area, Infirmary room, Warden’s Office, Admin. Office, Guard house and construction of two span perimeter fence amounting to 2,015,000.00 pesos last February 2017 to July 2017. The lfugao TESDA Administration through Training program on Masonry and Tile setting NCII, constructed a stock room beside the kitchen, concreting the outside surrounding ground of the Admin office and tiling of the guard house ground floor last August 2017 to September 2017. On May 2, 2018, the DPWH continued the construction of perimeter fence of this unit with an amount of 2, 419,251.47 pesos. On March 26, 2018, the continuation of the Jail building construction of phase II started thru a fund coming from the BJMP amounting to P 15,170,117.53 until it was fully finished during this 1st semester of 2019.
