History

It was by virtue of Republic Act 6975 otherwise known as the DILG Act of 1991 that the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology was created mandating the creation of all jail units to all municipalities nationwide. It was also by this virtue that Alfonso Lista District Jail was created to serve the second district of Ifugao Province having Ifugao District Jail at Kiangan, Ifugao to serve the first district.

In the year 2000, the first BJMP office was created in the municipality of Alfonso Lista with only two (2) personnel, SJO4 Alfredo C Dinamling as the Jail Warden and JO1 Claudio L Polig as his assistant. During that time, the PNP lock up cell of the old PNP building was utilized as the first BJMP facility with just two (2) Persons Deprived of Liberty in custody. Request for a separate facility was facilitated by SJO4 Alfredo C Dinamling and thru the constant insistence and follow up by then JO1 Claudio L Polig the realization of a separate facility came true. It was in the year 2003 that a Sangguniang Bayan Resolution for the donation of One Thousand, Seven Hundred and Twenty Six (1,726) square meters lot in favor of BJMP Alfonso Lista District Jail under the administration by then Local Chief Executive of Alfonso Lista, Ifugao Municipal Mayor Glenn Prudenciano paved the way to the construction of the first independent BJMP facility funded by the bureau.
